It is usually tempting to print web pages filled with needed information, however getting these pages to print as intended can sometimes prove daunting.

Even when one has succeeded in printing these pages, they usually look so awful on paper, for the web pages may either run off the page’s right edge or the printed letters come out too small to read. Moreover, because web pages usually come with colorful ads, one’s color ink cartridge could easily be used up.

Main Web page Printing Methods

There are a few ways one could successfully print web pages by circumventing these pitfalls; here are some of them:

  • Copy the entire page to any word processor. This method may seem as too much work, but it is one of the surefire options. Choose Select All from Internet Explorer’s Edit Menu. Next choose Copy – this option is also on the Edit Menu. In case one cannot find this option, press the CTRL + C keys. Then open any word processor and paste it inside a new document. Finally, go over this new document to get rid of unwanted portions, tand save the document. Finally, this document can now be sent to the printer.

  • Use the Web pages built-in Print option. Some Web sites offer a small menu appropriately titled ‘Print This Page’, ‘Text Version’, ‘Printer Friendly Version’, or something along these lines. The object of this menu is to direct the web site to strip out all the unnecessary text, pictures and ads and reformat the page so as to fit into one sheet of paper. This seems to be the most reliable way to print a webpage

  • Select Print Preview from the browser’s File or Print menu. In recent years, web page designers have tweaked the settings, allowing these pages to automatically reformat themselves when about to be printed. It is advisable to always be on the lookout for such pages.

  • Copy only the portion that is required into WordPad. Select only the desired text portion from the web page, then paste it into WordPad or any other word processor. Next, delete any unwanted part of the text, adjust the margins and print the portion needed.
Other Options for Printing Web pages

If one has tried all of the above-named techniques and failed, another way – a last resort – is to try sending the said page to their email address, if the page has an E-mail option, but no Print option. Then go to the Email and print it as an e-mail message; chances are, it might be easier to print it this way.

Yet, another way of printing needed text is to select the portion of the text one is after, then select the Internet Explorer’s File menu to open the Print dialog window, and then click the word Selection in the Page Range box.

And, finally, if a web page’s table or picture seems to have vanished off the right edge of the paper, one should try printing the page in a Landscape mode rather than the default Portrait, this way every text, table or picture is captured on the page.
